SAAYC provides training and programme support services to youth leaders, youth clubs, individuals, professionals, youth workers and youth organisations and structures from our head office and through our resource centres. The SAAYC Free State Resource Centre is operating from Makeneng Tribal Offices next to Makeneng Primary school. The centre was hosting Spelling Bee Competition for grade4-6 prizes on the 22nd October 2016 at Makeneng Primary Hall participating schools were Makeneng, Selebalo and Sekgothadi Public school with ten (10) learners each.
SAAYC Resource Centre Makeneng also runs other youth programs like Cisco IT Essentials, CompTIA IT Fundamentals, Design Squad Global, HP LIFE, ABSA Ready to Work, Holiday Program and Educational Support Program. The spelling bee is a not for profit program created to help children develop a love and appreciation for words and language. Through the spelling bee; spellers build their vocabulary, spelling skills, language understanding and join a community of word nerds. The objective of the competition is to enhance the spelling and literary skills of children by encouraging them to explore the English language, expand their vocabulary and improve their communication and comprehension skills. The Competition was held only in English. The prises won were (Oxford Dictionary, Trophy, Certificates and medals). We had top 10 best spellers; Masoeu Mabeta from Sekgothadi Public School took 3rd position, Mokoena Palesa from Makeneng Primary 2nd position and Mahalapa Mpho Grade 5 leaner from Makeneng Primary was the Championship of SAAYC Free State Spelling Bee Competition 2016 held at Makeneng Village QwaQwa.
